Skin: Ten-stage Blending
October 2005·pp. 76–77
THE SHORT VERSION
A brown-and-Dark Flesh foundation is progressively rebuilt with Dwarf Flesh, Elf Flesh and bone, leaving shadows under the eyes and around the mouth. Parkes places fine highlight lines where the face catches light, then uses very dilute flesh or coloured inks to enrich its character before restoring the sharpest highlights. Milk-like paint consistency and several thin coats make these many steps blend rather than form obvious bands.
