PAINTING·WHITE DWARF 310

Eyes

October 2005·p. 77

THE SHORT VERSION

A black eye position receives a smaller white almond, leaving a dark outline before the pupil is added. Parkes keeps the eyes level and uses pupil direction to change a figure’s personality. A pupil high in the socket with white visible beneath produces a more sinister expression, demonstrating how very small alterations can distinguish otherwise identical heads.
