’Eavy Metal Showcase: Rob Starling

September 2005·pp. 84–87

THE SHORT VERSION

Rob Starling’s sketchbook drives a collection dominated by scratch-sculpted monsters and unusual interpretations of familiar creatures. Kroot riders, a larger feral beast and a Stegadon-based Ankylodon sit beside a sinister Blood Bowl Treeman, Cold One knight and large-scale Sigmarite priest. A crowded bar-room brawl provides a lighter counterpoint, made while travel restricted his tools and materials. The interview connects his preference for sculpting to old monster films, stop-motion animation and the desire to build subjects that do not already exist.
