Captain Grumman and the Faithful

THE SHORT VERSION

Captain Grumman expects the Church of Mortification’s fanatics to die clearing a path for his Gudrun Rifles across a sodden battlefield. Their suicidal assault instead tears open the heretics’ trench line, and a dying priest finally draws an answer in his own language of faith from the officer who had dismissed their beliefs as incomprehensible dogma.
